Story Line for our thriller

The opening sequence will consist of a man walking his dog through a a forest area around a lake, as he's walking the dog we will shoot it froom all different angles and have natural sounds as well as a music track to make it tense. Towards the end the dog walker discovers part of a body and the music gets really intense and the dog starts barking and the chases after someone / something and then the title of the film appears through the trees.

Professional assassin Leon reluctantly takes care of 12-year-old Mathilda, a neighbor whose parents are killed, and teaches her his trade.

Genre: Crime, Action thriller

Conventions : in opening sequence there was mostly ominous atmospheric music.

Most of opening sequence was view of city with names placed over the top. (establishing shots)
once the establishing shots were finished close ups were used along side with the music to create tension which set the tone of the movie and drew the audience into the film.

The opening sequence that is for Taxi driver which is directed by Martin Scorsese and made in 1976. The opening sequence was very ambiguous as you don't see much just a mans eyes and it looks like he is watching people from his car. The opening sequence of the film brings you into the thriller genre quite well because it looks very ambiguous which makes you want to know is going to happen further on in the film.

• started off on dan's camera and filmed pans and tracking shots
• dan's camera ran out of charge so we used tom's 'camera'
• filmed closeups and shots that appear later in the sequence
• then we filmed establishing shots once it had got slightly darker

We need to take the weather into account for when we are to film and must make arrangements to prepare for the conditons:

Plan for the day of filming

10:00-prompt arrival at location ( Roswell Pits) with props and equiptment
10:00-10:30-Get equiptment set up and make the fake blood
10:30-12:00- Morning session of filming (dog walking sequence)
12:00-13:00- Lunch (remember to charge camera)
13:00-17:00- Afternoon session of filming
17:00-17:15- Pack up equiptment and tidy up the mess
17:15- Go home satisfied after a productive day filming

Our title choice

We used an online thesaurus for inspiration in order to find our title, we wanted a word that was a synonym of discovery as this was an aspect of the narrative that is the focus of our opening sequence. We decided as a group on 'Unearthed' because it gave the feeling of discovery and also suggested an outdoor location as the word contains earth. It also fit the genre as we found that a lot of thriller titles are vague in order to create the mystery that viewers of the genre enjoy e.g 7.

Mood Board

Our main influence for our thriller opening sequence was from the film 'Se7en' which has a mysterious and creepy feel to it by the way in which it uses lots of close ups of a persons hands doing disturbing things such as shaving the skin off his fingers and sticking bits of paper which other disturbing images on as well as text which we can't really read. This indicates that this person is not your average day person. We also chose to base our sequence on this due to how it  reveals this psychologically disturbed person but without giving away his identity. We like the way in which the titles are shown as its a bit less unconventional in way it flashes and jumps about on the screen.

Fake Blood

Movie blood (inedible)

Unlike the non-toxic, edible blood, this one won't be sticky. When dribbled from about five feet, this blood will create nice "splatter" patterns, like real blood does. On skin it will flow easily and smear like the real deal. But, be careful how you use it. It can easily get everywhere.

   Pour about three quarters as much alcohol-free, water-soluble hair gel as the amount of blood you want.
2. 2
   Add water-soluble motor or radiator lubricant, any brand. This should be semi-opaque and slightly thicker than water. Start off with a very small amount and mix with the gel until it turns watery.

   Mix in about half as much red food coloring as there is liquid. Preferably, buy a "super strength" type at a bulk foods store to save money, and skip the cheap, 1 oz (29.5ml) bottles; they look too pink.

   Add small amounts of chocolate syrup to make the blood browner, and improve the thickness. It shouldn't be too much like water, but still very dribbly.

   Add small amounts of hand sanitizer if you're having trouble with a nice, drippy consistency. Be warned, this easily weakens the mixture.

   Check the mix. The final mix should be a little bit thicker than water, deep brownish-red, and about the opacity of milk.
